Cogdel School Chengdu students have achieved excellent results in the UK Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition (Junior), applying physics and mathematical reasoning to astronomical scenarios ranging from orbital mechanics to stellar spectroscopy.
About the Competition
Organized by the British Physics Olympiad committee, this competition challenges students to think like astrophysicists. Problems might require calculating the habitable zone of an exoplanet system, analyzing the spectrum of a distant star, or modeling the trajectory of a spacecraft using gravitational assist — all scenarios that demand both physics knowledge and creative application.
Cogdel's Performance
Our students achieved multiple awards at Gold and Silver levels. Beyond the results, several participants reported that the competition sparked a genuine interest in pursuing physics or astronomy at university — exactly the kind of intellectual ignition that competitions at their best can provide.
