Cogdel School Chengdu proudly hosted the CISA U13 Table Tennis Singles tournament in May 2026, welcoming young athletes from international schools across Chengdu to our historic Anren Ancient Town campus for a day of spirited competition.
More Than a Tournament
At Cogdel, sports are central to our educational philosophy — not as an add-on, but as a core vehicle for developing character. As Principal Lu Kun often says: "Sports teach children three things: how to lose, how to persist, and how to work as a team. Confidence built on grades is a house on quicksand — confidence built through sport is built on rock."
Tournament Highlights
The event featured intense matches across boys' and girls' singles brackets. Cogdel student athletes delivered standout performances — but equally impressive was the sportsmanship on display. Players from different schools cheered each other on, shared tactics between matches, and formed friendships that transcend school rivalries.
Student Leadership in Action
True to Cogdel's approach, students weren't just participants — they were organizers. Student referees managed matches under faculty supervision. Peer coaches supported teammates between rounds, analyzing opponents and adjusting strategies. Student photographers and journalists documented the event for the school's digital platforms. This is what "leadership cultivation" looks like in practice — not a classroom lecture, but real responsibility in a real event.
Student Reflection
"Table tennis taught me that losing a point isn't losing the game. You reset, refocus, and play the next ball. That's a lesson I bring into my studies, my projects, everything." — Cogdel Student Athlete
Special thanks to all participating schools, coaches, faculty supervisors, and parent volunteers who made this event possible. We eagerly anticipate the next CISA fixture and another opportunity to celebrate youth, sport, and character.
